Widener Concert Series
Relache Ensemble
Widener University will host the second of three free concerts as part of the Widener University Recital Series on its Main Campus in Chester, PA.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Sunday, January 22nd, 2017. The concert starts at 3:00pm in the Kapelski Recital Hall, located on the corner of 14th and Walnut Street.
The group’s program, Relâche, the Sublime and Ridiculous, features commissioned music from award-winning American composer Mark Hagerty and British composer Gavin Bryars. In addition, there will be a screening of the recently discovered complete version of Max Linder's 1921 silent comedy, Be My Wife. During the screening, Relâche will perform a live musical accompaniment to premiere a newly expanded score by Chris McGlumphy.
Known for their unique sound and innovative music, Relâche musicians play a variety of instruments - the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, viola, keyboard, bass and percussion - to capture both the sublime and the ridiculous in a melding of Western classical traditions with jazz, rock, electronica, world music and more.
